Dazzling Doors - Enhancing the Beauty of Your Home
Why not be deliberate about choosing and designing your doors? Entry doors, interior doors and every door opening to outdoor living spaces can enhance the beauty and enjoyment of your home giving it a truly distinctive look. Don’t take all of the doors in your home for granted when each one can become something you admire and enjoy every day you walk through them.
Stunning doors can help you capture fabulous views and connect the spaces both inside and outside of your home. They should be both stylish and functional. Placed strategically, they can bring great views into a living room or blur the line between a kitchen and patio, enhancing your indoor/outdoor lifestyle. Attractive doors can help create a stage for entertaining, whether it’s a small dinner party or a celebration that flows from inside your home out to a porch, terrace, balcony or the backyard itself.
Start by setting goals for what each door should accomplish within any specific space. You can have dozens of doors located within your home so there’s lots to consider. For example, will your door take advantage of a certain view or become a conduit to dining outdoors? Will it be needed to provide additional natural light for your room or block noise from a specific part of your house, such as the room where many watch a large screen tv with a surround stereo system?
How will it look both open and closed? Would you like it to be a Dutch door that opens part way to be more versatile with light and air? Should it have beveled or stained glass above it to add more light into a room? Would you want to consider a pocket door for a smaller room with glass to add light into the room? How about an arch-top French door that offers an elegant introduction into any room of the house? Or, a sliding door providing a smooth divider to open or close a room’s space? Keep in mind the hardware that goes onto the door as well can add even more beauty so there are lots of decisions to make!
It may be helpful to begin door design planning with your front door, which offers a first impression to you and your guests and increases your curb appeal. It can be custom made and created in a variety of sizes, traditional or oversized. If it is a large dramatic-looking door, it can be designed with a pivot mechanism to allow for friction-free operation.
There is also an opportunity to design elegant elements above the door and on each side to enhance the dramatic impact both outside and inside for anyone who enters. Will it be surrounded by flowers, trees, bushes, columns, potted plants, antique fountains or sculptures? All of these aspects should become part of your planning. Stylistically, you can choose paneled, double, and arched doors for example, made out of wood, fiberglass or metal.
Solid wood doors are traditionally strong and durable and have been a preferred choice through thousands of years. There are many types of wood to think about for your doors which can be carved, stained and painted. Wood doors can be made from oak, walnut, mahogany, maple, pine, fir, Western hemlock and cherry.

Historically, front doors are believed to protect you from the negativity outside so give your front door some serious thought so that it complements your beautiful home and lifestyle. You will, of course, want your door to be strong enough to thwart burglaries and enhance your security so you may choose to add strong door locks and alarms to add peace of mind.
Handcrafted from the highest quality materials with an array of beautiful, custom design options, interior doors can bring a special beauty into your home. Warm inviting interior doors help people move seamlessly through your house. The interior doors of your home can reflect the key design elements of your main entry door, carrying the design throughout all areas of your home for greater cohesiveness. They can have various designs such as lovely arched doors that enter into a living room or a laundry room. These doors can be solid wood, such as a carved arch door leading to a wine cellar, or a door that is part glass allowing a view into another room or to a lovely view.
You’ll want all of your doors to be energy efficient for optimal climate control and comfort. Doors can also keep sound contained for night owls who want to watch tv late into the night to early birds who want to view the news and read the newspaper in the morning. They can even be automatically opening doors and sliding doors that are operated remotely without using a key. Be thoughtful when choosing doors for your home to create an even more special sanctuary you’ll enjoy every day. And, keep in mind that attractive, well-made and functional doors can also add to your home’s value should you sell it.
